Application Examples for RENO
We have compiled some examples to demonstrate the types of tasks that you will be able to perform with ReliaSoft's RENO software.
You can use RENO for a wide variety of applications including, but not limited to:
- Reliability and Quality Examples
- Risk Analysis Examples
- Optimization Examples
- Decision (Event) Tree Examples
- Financial Analysis Examples
- Miscellaneous Fun Examples
Additional examples are shipped with the software (in the "Examples" folder in the application directory) and in the RENO training guide.
Note: The data and/or exact test method that were used may have been modified in cases where the actual information was deemed to be confidential.
Note: All examples use the decimal definition (.) and list separator (,) for USA regional settings. If your settings differ, you must adjust the inputs accordingly to reproduce the examples. For example, the function f(10.3,2.7) under USA regional settings would be f(10,3;2,7) under German regional settings, and so on.
Reliability and Quality Examples
Example R-1:
Snow Blower Reliability
Estimate the reliability of a snow blower under specified operating conditions that vary by region. Consider the amount of snowfall and the area of the driveways in the region.
Example R-2:
Reliability Considering Both Failure and Usage Distributions
Determine the reliability and reliability vs. time plot for a washing machine that has different failure distributions for different usage loads.
Example R-3:
Hinge Assembly Variability
Estimate the percentage of times that a hinge assembly will be out of spec based on the known variabilities for its component parts.
Risk Analysis Examples
Example RA-1:
Buy a Lock for Gym Locker?
Evaluate whether it will be more cost effective to buy a lock or not buy a lock for your gym locker, given the costs of maintaining a lock and the risk of having your valuables stolen.
Example RA-2:
Risk of Allergic Reaction to Suntan Lotion
Evaluate the risk of reaction to a suntan lotion that contains a variable amount of a potentially allergenic chemical. Consider the amount of the chemical in the lotion, the amount of lotion applied and the probability of allergic reaction.
Example RA-3:
Markov Type Problem
Based on given rates of illness and death, predict the population of a small community over 30 years.
Optimization Examples
Example O-1:
Allocate Aircraft Seats to Maximize Revenue
Estimate the optimum allocation of coach and first class seats to maximize revenue for the airline.
Example O-2:
Optimum Newspaper Inventory
Determine the optimum inventory for a newspaper boy to maximize revenue given the demand for newspapers, the cost of supplies and the sales revenue.
Decision (Event) Tree Examples
Example DT-1:
Birthday Party Menu Design
Estimate the number of portions of hamburgers, pizza slices and hot dogs you will need to provide for a birthday party for 40 children.
Example DT-2:
Lawsuit Outcomes
Compute the probabilities of a variety of outcomes in a lawsuit.
Financial Analysis Examples
Example F-1:
Planning a Retirement Strategy
Given a particular retirement strategy, evaluate the investment income over the next 20 years and with varied investment percentages.
Miscellaneous Fun Examples
Example M-1:
Rain Prediction
Predict the likelihood of rain based on weather conditions over the previous two days.
Example M-2:
Buffon's Needle
Approximate the value of pi from Buffon's needle problem using Laplace's equation.
Example M-3:
Estimating Dice Roll Probabilities
Estimate the probability of rolling a 4 with a single 6-sided die and the probability of rolling a pair of 4s with two 6-sided dice.
Example M-4:
Roulette
Use RENO to simulate a straight up bet in American roulette.
