Defining a Logic Gate (AND, OR, XOR, k-out-of-N)

A Logic Gate accepts multiple incoming paths and has up to two outgoing paths. It checks incoming values against a specified value or a Definition that evaluates to a numerical value. Possible outcomes are TRUE and FALSE, based on the condition and the gate type. A Logic Gate cannot be the final block in a flowchart.

The check is based on a standard conditional (=, >, <, <=, >=) and the gate type:

  • AND: All incoming values meet the condition.
  • OR: At least one incoming value meets the condition.
  • XOR: Exactly one incoming value meets the condition.
  • K-out-of-N: At least K out of N incoming values meet the condition.

You specify the values that will be passed to the TRUE path if the condition is true for the required number of paths (based on the gate type) and to the FALSE path if the condition is false. You also have the option to continue execution on both paths by passing a specified value to the FALSE path when the condition is true and to the TRUE path when the condition is false.

Required Number of Executed Paths
During a simulation, some paths may not be executed (e.g. a false path following a Conditional Block or Logic Gate when the condition has evaluated to TRUE). Entering the required number of executed paths allows the simulation to continue when not all of the incoming paths have been executed. As soon as the required number of paths have been executed, the outgoing paths will be executed and the “memory” of the construct will be erased. An event will not be triggered again until the required number of executed paths is met again.

For example, if 3 incoming paths to a logic gate are executed and the required number of executed paths is 2, the third executed path will be ignored. On the other hand, if 4 incoming paths are executed and the required number of executed paths is 2, the logic gate will send results to its outgoing path(s) twice: once evaluating the first two incoming paths and once evaluating the last two incoming paths.
