RS 402 Training Seminar
Introduction to Accelerated Life Testing Analysis

1 Day     .7 CEUs     2 CRP Credits
Assumes completion of RS 401 or equivalent knowledge.

The second session in the MSMT Reliability Foundations training seminar series, the RS 402 training course introduces the principles and techniques of quantitative accelerated life testing data analysis (QALT data analysis), one of the hottest subjects in reliability engineering. ReliaSoft’s ALTA Standard software is used for hands-on practical examples. Topics include life-stress relationship models and acceleration factors.

This training course will help you to understand when quantitative accelerated life testing methodologies are appropriate and how they can be applied to analyze the effects of stress (or other factors) on product life. These techniques can help your organization to significantly reduce the test time required to obtain reliability metrics, and therefore reduce your time to market.

Take the next step...

After you have completed RS 402 or if you already have a basic understanding of this topic, consider registering for the 3 day advanced course: RS 521 - Advanced Accelerated Life Testing Analysis.

Training Course Outline

Morning

Quantitative accelerated life testing is a very important topic in reliability engineering. Life testing products under higher stress levels without introducing additional failure modes can provide significant savings of both time and money. Correct quantitative analysis of data gathered via such accelerated life testing will yield parameters and other information for the product's life under use stress conditions. This is a results-oriented seminar with emphasis on introducing the theories and methodologies in the real world of quantitative accelerated life testing.

Fundamentals of Quantitative Accelerated Life Testing

  • Overview of accelerated life testing
    • What it is and how it is applied
    • Types of accelerated tests (Quantitative vs. Qualitative)
  • Introduction to Applicable life-stress relationship models and their analyses
    • Constant stress (time-independent) relationships
      • Arrhenius relationship Eyring relationship
      • Inverse power relationship
      • Temperature - humidity relationship
      • Temperature - non-thermal relationship
      • GLL relationship.
    • Time-dependent stress relationships
      • Cumulative exposure/damage model (step/ramp stress models)
  • Predicting life use reliabilities, warranty times and MTTF (MTBF) using accelerated life data
  • Determining acceleration factors
  • Obtaining use level plots/results from accelerated data including:
    • Probability plots
    • Reliability plots and results
    • Failure rate plots and results
    • Probability density function (pdf) plots
    • Life-stress plots
    • Confidence bounds on plots and results

Afternoon

Applying the Analysis Methods Using ReliaSoft's ALTA

In addition to the presentation of the underlying theory and methods, attendees at this session will receive training on how to use ReliaSoft's accelerated life testing data analysis software package, ALTA (note that the emphasis for this training course is on ALTA Standard, while RS 521 emphasizes ALTA PRO).

You will also be provided with an evaluation copy of ALTA.
