Frequently Asked Questions
How can I determine if Xfmea is the right package for me?
We invite you to try this product and compare it with any other comparable package on the market. A free demo installation is available for download from our website at http://Download.ReliaSoft.com (use the 32-bit or 64-bit Synthesis Platform installation, which allows you to install any or all of the Version 8 software tools).
What are the minimum system requirements?
The supported operating systems are Microsoft Windows XP (SP 3 or higher), Vista (SP 1 or higher) and 7, or Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2, 2008 or 2008 R2.
If you choose to use an enterprise data repository, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle are supported (including the "Express" editions of both). Click here for hardware requirements and other details...
What languages are supported?
The interface is currently available in English, German and French (with Portuguese, Spanish and Simplified Chinese planned to be added soon). For details and to see if support for additional languages has been added in our most recent release, see http://www.ReliaSoft.com/multi-language.htm.
Is the Synthesis Platform a different product to buy and install?
No. The platform is integrated and is a part of each product (Synthesis Element). It is automatically installed and configured during the installation process.
What is the difference between the 32-bit and 64-bit installations?
All Version 8 (Synthesis) applications are available both in 32-bit and 64-bit versions with multi-processor and multi-threading support. On 32-bit systems, the size and complexity of models could reach the machine's usable memory limits regardless of your hardware. Whereas, our 64-bit multi-processor and multi-threaded versions are limited only by your hardware. The 64-bit version is designed for PCs running Windows 7 64-bit and Microsoft Office 64-bit. If unsure as to which version will work for you, you can download our compatibility test application for assistance.
Is there a different process for single-user, multi-user or enterprise deployments?
No. The installation process, use and deployment experience is the same. All Synthesis Elements were designed from the ground up to be “connection aware” and to adapt automatically to single-user, multi-user and/or enterprise configurations based on what type of repository you are connected with. All products can be used either as an enterprise version (when connected to an enterprise database server — Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle) and/or act as a standalone or simple multi-user version when connected to a local repository on your computer (*.rsrp, Version 8 relational database file format). This provides both complete deployment flexibility and, best of all, true scalability.
Do I need a database server?
Not unless you choose to use the platform and applications in an enterprise mode. An enterprise data repository requires implementation of Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle (or the "Express" editions of those database platforms for smaller groups or power users). A standard repository (*.rsrp) requires no special IT infrastructure or support. [Tip: If you're considering the option to use the free "Express" edition of Microsoft SQL Server, this document provides some information that may help you to get started.]
Is technical support available?
ReliaSoft's software products are renowned for their ease of use and unparalleled after-sale support. In addition to free product updates, we provide FREE technical support for all standard shrink-wrap software via phone, fax or e-mail through an established (and growing) network of regional offices and partners/distributors throughout the world.
What resources are available to help me master the software?
Comprehensive documentation and sample files
Xfmea comes with complete and detailed printed product documentation and online help files, a quick start guide with step-by-step examples and a multitude of example files designed to get you up and running the minute the application is installed.
Training seminars that cover the theory and the application
ReliaSoft's training courses provide instruction in reliability engineering principles and theory as well as the ReliaSoft software tools designed to put that theory into practice. Seminars on Xfmea and effective strategies for Failure Mode and Effects Analysis are available in both public and on-site venues. For more details and course outlines, see http://Seminars.ReliaSoft.com.
How do I order Xfmea and when will it arrive?
Licenses are available for either the Standard version (single user or network license) or the Enterprise version (network license). We offer several easy methods of purchase. Generally, orders received by your local office before 2 pm are processed the same day. Otherwise, orders are processed the next business day. For single user licenses, you have the option to download the materials from the Web or have a CD-ROM and printed books shipped to you via an express courier (2nd Day or International service). If requested, and depending on your location, domestic orders can be shipped with Overnight service for delivery by the next business day.
